Not being evil?
I just came across this nugget in the Washington Post: Congress has failed to pass legislation regarding so-called “Net Neutrality,” and now the issue is again top of mind as Internet providers seeking preferential treatment; network operators considering a tiered approach, and once-staunch defenders beginning to soften their stance on the matter. This time, it [...]
Contributions from a Moran
Courtesy of LSH’s resident econ expert, Nagasaki. The rest can be found here. He says its the best explanation he’s seen yet for what happened with the mortgage crisis. Also, I’ve been reading a lot of people lately who wish to spread and water down the blame for our current economic predicament. Yes, the american consumer [...]
Like Light Through Water
Among my many issues is the one-two punch of my unwillingness to start things, and my inability to finish things. These traits, more than anything else in my life, have brought me to the sorry condition in which you find me. But at least I’m still fighting. As evidence of this last I offer this: [...]
The High Speed Rail for America Act of 2008
Good news, good new! A bipartisan bill for investment in HSR, co-sponsored by Sen. Kerry and Sen. Specter. From the LA Times and Sen. Kerry’s press release: The High-Speed Rail for America Act of 2008 builds upon the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 which reauthorizes Amtrak and authorizes $1.5 billion over a five-year [...]
Transit & infrastructure petition
For those interested, Transportation for America is collecting signatures for a petition to the president-elect regarding the funding of transit projects in the new administration. So if you are supportive of increased funding on transit and infrastructure you might want to check it out.
Yes they did
Good news on the drug legalization front, from Reason: They still want an income tax (idiots) but 65 percent of Bay State residents have used the ballot process to decriminalize amounts of pot under an ounce. You’ll get civil penalties and up to a $100 fine once the law goes into effect.
More transit
I just discovered a new report put out by Reconnecting America. Demand for transit has been growing and getting to be more politically successful – which I hadn’t anticipated. Maybe its just my social circle but most people I know still seem to be grumbling about the light rail here in the Twin Cities. The demand for [...]
Some thoughts on food
Everyone who knows me knows I do a lot of thinking about food and nutrition. A subset of those people have heard me beat the drum about how the Ethanol movement is an absolutely assinine, a claim that cannot be controversial to anyone with five minutes to spend thinking and a first-grade command of arithmetic. [...]
Hard time seeing you
People say we are at war but we almost never see it on tv anymore. Well, I don’t. I don’t have a whole lot of time for tv. And on the tv I do see, I see people talk about it, show maps, and show recycled footage from a year ago. Every once in a while I [...]
