The second is a delightful website that Janie pointed me toward, where a guy writes funny letters to people and corporations. I read a few of them and they are awesome. An example is here.
I used to write funny letters but then I stopped. My favorites were when I applied to be the superhero in charge of protecting Minneapolis (then-Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton wrote me back a personal letter, which I still have someplace) and when I applied to be the new conductor for Orchestra Hall, back when they were looking for a new conductor. (They did not reply, possibly since I included in my letter the phrase ‘idiot with Down’s Syndrome waving a stick around’ which seems like a bad idea in retrospect.)
Since life lately has offered a number of opportunities for funny letters I’m thinking about doing this again. We’ll see.
