This is a big one.
For various reasons, the very nature of the universe, err, LSH, is shifting. Seth Godin calls blogs like LSH “cat blogs”, as in, blogs old women make about their cats, with an intended audience of pretty much nobody. (The cat bloggers intend that their family and friends will be the audience, but actually none of these people give a shit so the actual audience winds up being nobody.)
As you know, I’m in the process of reinventing my life. One of those reinventions will involve having a “real” web presence that puts a public face in the world. I could have done this in any number of ways, but I’ve decided to turn LSH into that public face. The nature of this face will evolve as different of my schemes come to pass. Because I’m really sick of talking about stuff I’m going to do, and then usually not doing it, my new attitude is to just do stuff, then talk about it. So I’ll say no more about this for now.
What I will say is that I’ve long missed the old BBS days. Some of the handful of people who read LSH were intrepid 612 pioneers, and you guys know what I mean; calling Proton over and over and going to user fights, then to the boards to see if anyone responded to your angry rant about how lame Commodore 64s were, or to rag on El Kidd. Some of my plans and schemes are to turn LSH into a medium that can more closely approach those halcyon days. But until then, and in accordance with other schemes that will go unexplained, this will maybe move things slightly in that direction: our own beloved Peaches, of Grab Bag fame, will be bringing his traveling fun show to LSH.
I should say that for the cat blog lovers here, don’t worry. You haven’t been forgotten. But in the short term, LSH is gonna retreat from cat bloggery, at least in its more ostentatious incarnations. Big things are afoot, and I hope you’ll keep paying attention.
